As the Premier League celebrates its 30th Anniversary, I decided to rank my top 10 managers to manage in the league.
We've seen a lot of good managers over the years based on the job they've done and what they've achieved at certain clubs. Lets see which managers are in my top 10.
10. Sam Allardyce
Clubs: Bolton - 1999-2007 Newcastle - 2007-2008 Blackburn - 2008-2010 West Ham - 2012-2015 Sunderland - 2015-2016 Crystal Palace - 2016-2017 Everton - 2017-2018 West Brom - 2020-2021
His style of play wasn't the prettiest but if your team were ever in a relegation battle and needed someone to save you, Big Sam was your man. He performed great escapes at Bolton, Blackburn, Sunderland and Crystal Palace where his defensive approach and organisation played a massive part.
9. Roy Hodgson
Clubs: Blackburn - 1997-1998 Fulham - 2007-2010 Liverpool - 2010-2011 West Brom - 2011-2012 Crystal Palace - 2017-2021 Watford - 2022
Hodgson was a manager who could keep a side in the league after taking charge of them in a perilous position before later establishing them as a Premier League club. He did exactly this at both Fulham and Crystal Palace who were both set for relegation when he arrived and he performed an absolute miracle in keeping them up. He lead Fulham into Europe the season after surviving relegation whilst at Palace he established them as a Premier League for another three seasons.
8. David Moyes
Clubs: Everton - 2002-2013 Man United - 2013-2014 Sunderland - 2016-2017 West Ham - 2017-2018 and 2019-
Spells at Man United and Sunderland may not have worked out but at Everton and both spells at West Ham, Moyes has showed how good a manager he is. He made Everton regular European challengers during his time there and he's done exactly the same at West Ham.
7. Harry Redknapp
Clubs: West Ham - 1994-2001 Portsmouth - 2003-2004 and 2005-2008 Southampton - 2004-2005 Tottenham - 2008-2012 QPR - 2012-2013
Redknapp was another one of those managers who could save a team from the possibility of relegation and then establish them at Premier League level. He did this at West Ham and Portsmouth when both looked destined to go down and did something similar at Spurs when he took them from the foot of the table to an 8th placed finish. He even lead them to a surprise top four finish the following season.
6. Sir Bobby Robson
Clubs: Newcastle - 1999-2004
Robson is arguably the best manager Newcastle have ever had as he lead them into Europe for three straight seasons. Admired by many ex-players including his former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer and is one of the greatest managers of all time because of what he achieved in the game.
5. Jurgen Klopp
Clubs: Liverpool - 2015-
Klopp has embraced the culture of Liverpool ever since he arrived at the club by forming an excellent relationship with the fans as well as his players and the club itself. He's turned Liverpool into mentality monsters and a winning machine and both were key components of his 2019/20 title win. Ending Liverpool's 30 year wait for a league title.
4. Jose Mourinho
Clubs: Chelsea - 2004-2007 and 2013-2015 Man United - 2016-2018 Tottenham - 2019-2021
Mourinho announced himself as "the special one" when he first arrived in England and he delivered instantly. He won back to back titles with Chelsea in 2005 and 2006 where he changed the whole mentality of the club. He even came back to win another title in 2015 before difficult spells at Man United and Spurs.
3. Arsene Wenger
Clubs: Arsenal - 1996-2018
Wenger changed the landscape of English football when he first arrived by changing everything at Arsenal as well as the entire league. He won a double in his first full season at Highbury and is the only manager to go undefeated for an entire season in 2003/04. He and his Arsenal side may have stagnated towards the end of his reign but his impact on English football and his Invincibles season will never be forgotten.
2. Pep Guardiola
Clubs: Man City - 2016-
Pep has changed the game in this country ever since he arrived here with many managers setting their teams up to play out from the back like he does. He has raised the bar very high with three of his four titles being won with 90+ points including his triumph in 2017/18 where his City side became the first to win a title with 100 points. He's turned City into a dominant force and now he wants that Champions League trophy to complete his collection.
1. Sir Alex Ferguson
Clubs: Man United - 1992-2013
The Greatest Premier League manager of all time. Fergie made Man United the top dogs of English football for many years as he won 13 league titles and establish both himself and the club at Europe's top table. He set the bar at that club so high that the managers who have succeeded him have struggled to live up to his legacy.
