Talking Points of the Weekend

Will Brentford struggle to keep hold of Ivan Toney this summer?

Ivan Toney netted his 20th Premier League goal of the season in Brentford's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday which has him in 3rd on the scoring charts this season. With the season he is he's having and the majority of clubs in the Premier League needing a striker this summer, Will Brentford struggle to keep hold of him?

Whenever a player scores 20 goals or more for a small club like Brentford in the Premier league, some of the big clubs will be chasing their signature come the summer. With the season that Ivan Toney is having it wouldn't at all surprise me if some of the big teams are after him this summer. A number of clubs in the Premier League will be looking for a striker and Toney may be near the top of their lists.

He might be facing a lengthy ban over his betting allegations which will likely rule him out for most of next season. But a number of clubs could still be looking to buy him in the summer because of what he offers on the pitch and the amount of goals he's scored this season. He's proven himself both this season and last season that he's a proven goal scorer at Premier League level and it's for that reason that a number of clubs could be chasing him in the summer.

Will Harry Kane break Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goal record?

Harry Kane netted his 208th Premier League goal on Sunday during Spurs' 4-3 defeat at Liverpool moving him level with Wayne Rooney in 2nd. He's now 52 behind Alan Shearer on the all-time goal charts with Shearer obviously leading the way with 260. But will he break it?

The record will surely be in his sights after rising up to second on the all-time goal charts and it's been a record he's been after for the majority of his career. He said many years ago that he wants to break Shearer's goal record and he's on course to do so if he carries on scoring goals the way he has been throughout his career.

Kane breaking Shearer's record will depend on whether he stays in England or not. His current contract at Spurs is up next summer and number of clubs around Europe will be interested in buying him this summer. He may want a move abroad to give himself a new challenge but with the possibility of breaking Alan Shearer's goal record, he might want to stay in England so he can do that. His chances of breaking that record will depend on how long he continues playing in this country.

Leeds lucky not to be in relegation zone

It's another tough season for Leeds with Javi Gracia's side only outside the bottom three on goal difference. They've conceded the most goals in the league with 67 and on several occasions haven't been clinical enough in front of goal. With the current run of form they're on alongside their poor performances at both ends, I'm beginning to wonder how they're not in the bottom three.

They're only outside the bottom three because of Nottingham Forest having a worse goal difference. If Forest had a better record away from home, Leeds would most likely be in the relegation zone in their place.

Whenever you watch Leeds you just know that they're going to concede because they always look suspect at the back. There is no organisation or structure to their defence and they concede so many goals because of it. They had this problem under both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch and they still have it under Javi Gracia. The manager will take some of the blame because he's the one in charge of the team but the players should still take responsibility for their own performances. Their problems at the back are a mixture of both. The manager for not coaching them properly and the players for not doing the basics.

Despite scoring 43 goals this season, they've still struggled in the final third. Over the course of the season they've created a lot of chances but haven't always taken them. Patrick Bamford's injury troubles certainly haven't helped but even when he's been fit they still haven't taken their chances. They have other attacking players who are capable of scoring goals but they haven't stepped up enough. Their main struggles have been defensively this season but their struggles at the other end should also need addressing.
