Talking Points of the Weekend

Has Alexander Isak solved Newcastle's goal scoring problems?

Newcastle's main problem since the turn of the year has been scoring goals or having someone to put the ball in the net. They've failed to score in four of their league games since the turn of the year and won just once before their win over Wolves last weekend. The main reason why they didn't win any games during that time was because they didn't have someone to put the ball in the net.

They might've just found that player in Alexander Isak who has netted 3 goals in his last 2 games both of which the Magpies won to get their top four bid back on track. Is he the man to fix Newcastle goal scoring problems?

It's been a fairly tough season for the Sweden striker as he was out injured for a long time and has had to adjust to the Premier League. It's only now that he's finally hit some form after a tough start. He's had a month or two to build up his fitness after a long time out injured and you can tell that he's finally fit after scoring the the last couple of games.

He's definitely shown what Newcastle have lacked since the turn of they year in a clinical no.9 who can score goals. Whenever crosses have gone into the box he's usually been there to put the ball away like any striker would be. The Magpies haven't had that player since the turn of the year.

His form will give him confidence and he'll need to keep it up if Newcastle are to finish top four and if he is to be the answer to their goal scoring problems.

Is Conte facing the sack at Spurs after post-match row with media?

Antonio Conte really went for it in his post-match press conference where he criticised both his players and the club after his sides' 3-3 draw with Southampton. In his press conference he called his players selfish after watching them let a two goal lead slip and had a right go at the club's hierarchy. Is Conte now facing the sack after these comments?

Those comments were slightly over the top in my opinion because they're not the things you should say in public. They're the things you should say in the dressing room. He does a point though as Spurs have had problems both on and off the pitch for the last few years in regards to their performances on it and the way they're being handled off it. But Conte still shouldn't have said those things in public.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy will have listened to Conte's press conference and may probably be thinking about sacking him as he criticised the club hierarchy in public. A similar thing happened earlier in the season when Scott Parker who was in charge of Bournemouth said that his team were not equipped for the Premier League after their 9-0 loss at Liverpool. Spurs could go down the same route after hearing Conte tear into the club and his players.

His contract is up at the end of the season and hasn't been happy at the club for a while. But after what he said in his press conference, Levy may pull the trigger on another manager.

Bukayo Saka is a serious contender for player of the season

Bukayo Saka became the first player to both score and assist more than 10 goals this season when he did both in Arsenal's 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday. It was an excellent all-round performance from the 21 year old against Palace as he caused the Eagles backline a number of problems. With the season he's having overall, he has to be a serious contender for player of the season.

There will be a number of players up for that award at the end of the season including the likes of Erling Haaland, Marcus Rashford, Martin Odegaard and Saka himself. Haaland will probably be the favourite because of the amount of goals he's scored but I wouldn't rule out Saka with the season he's having.

He's got 12 goals and 10 assists to his name this season and is second on the assists chart behind Kevin De Bruyne who is leading the way with 12. He's been Arsenal's talisman with the performances he's put in alongside his contributions for the season which have been crucial to Arsenal challenging for the title. He's taken his game onto another level this season.

He'll definitely be up there for the young player of the season award but with the amount of goals and assists he's registered and his importance to the Arsenal team, he's got to be right there to win the main award.
