Sergio Aguero: A look back on his time at City

Sergio Aguero announced yesterday that he is to leave Man City at the end of the season once his contract has expired. After a successful 10 seasons at the club, this is what I think of the clubs record goal scorer.

When he arrived from Atletico Madrid for £35 million in the summer of 2011, it appeared to be the final piece of the jigsaw in terms of building a team that could seriously challenge for the title. They already had a top striker at the club in Carlos Tevez who won the golden boot the previous season with Dimitar Berbatov. But the Argentine appeared to be on his way out which prompted Roberto Mancini to buy a top class striker to replace him and one slightly younger in Sergio Aguero. Aguero proved himself to be the final piece of the jigsaw by netting 23 goals in his debut season including that dramatic late winner against QPR on the final day of that season which won City the title.

Ever since then he has become City's all time leading goal scorer with 257 goals and has become one of the best finishers and players in Europe by scoring those goals. He's netted 12 Premier League hat tricks which is more than any other player and is the highest overseas goal scorer with 181 goals scored which is the fourth highest in the all time Premier League scoring charts behind Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole. He's surprisingly won just one golden boot which came in the 2014/15 season where he scored 26 goals and if it wasn't for the injuries he picked up, he might've had more.

Overall, I think Sergio Aguero is a City legend without a shadow of a doubt because he's scored a lot of goals for them and has been a crucial part of their success over the last decade by helping them win 4 Premier League titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup. He's arguably been the best overseas striker in Premier League history by being the highest goal scorer in that category and has also been one of the best exports into the Premier League because of the success he has had in this country. With City fighting on all four fronts this season, he's set to end his City career on a real high.
