Questions facing Arne Slot at Liverpool

Arne Slot was appointed as Liverpool's new manager earlier today replacing Jurgen Klopp.

The former Feyenoord boss will have a big job on his hands when he begins work on the 1st of July because of the icon he's replacing in Jurgen Klopp.

He'll also have some big questions to answer and these five will be among them:

How will he use Alexander-Arnold?

Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of Liverpool's most important players under Klopp with his creativity from right back being key to how they played.

The vice-captain was used in a hybrid role towards the end of Klopp's reign and it allowed him to move into midfield where he showed off his passing abilities and took control of games.

Alexander-Arnold has been long tipped to move into midfield because he has the vision and attributes to play in that position. With Slot likely to use his full-backs in a slightly different way to how Klopp used his, this could enable Alexander-Arnold to be used in midfield regularly.

Will Salah be part of his plans?

Mohamed Salah's future has been heavily talked about over the last few months and especially as his contract expires next summer.

Salah has been one of the reds' most important players in recent years and arguably their most important due to the goals he's scored. His goal record since he's been with the reds has been incredible and without him the reds might not have achieved the success they've had.

But with his contract up next summer, Slot will need to decide whether to make him part of his plans by offering him a new deal or cash in on him this summer.

Can he get the best out of Nunez?

Darwin Nunez has been a frustrating player to watch ever since he's been at Liverpool because of the amount of chances he misses in games.

He does everything right off the ball in that he puts in the hard yards when needed to and always gets himself into the right positions, but he just hasn't been consistent enough in front of goal.

The way Arne Slot likes to use his striker might be different to how Klopp used his and this could potentially help get the best out of Nunez.

Nunez rushed into a lot of his chances under Klopp but under Slot, he might be more calm and composed as Slot's style of football might suit him better.

Also, Slot and his coaching staff might come up with ways that will help Nunez be more clinical in front of goal. Ways that Klopp and his staff failed to come up with.

Will he establish a connection with the fans in the same way Klopp did?

Klopp had such a good connection with the supporters throughout his time at Liverpool as he thanked them for their support after every game and sometimes celebrated goals with them.

If the fans are to embrace Slot in the same way, the Dutchman will need to get them onside straightaway like Klopp did when he first arrived.

His attacking style of football will certainly help with that as it will keep them entertained and get them on board with what he's trying to do. But in order for the fans to be fully on board with him, Slot will need to go to them and appreciate their support like Klopp did.

What positions will he need to strengthen?

The reds won't need a massive overhaul this summer as they had their midfield revamp last summer and are unlikely to lose a shedload of players this summer. But Slot will still look to bring players that will both improve the team and suit his way of playing.

The attack is an area that needs addressing as a lack of cutting edge was what let the reds down towards the end of the season as they fell out of contention for the title.

Out of the reds' current attacking players, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota are the most and only consistent players in front of goal. Darwin Nunez isn't clinical enough, Cody Gakpo is inconsistent and whilst Luis Diaz may be a good player on his day, he doesn't score enough goals.

With Salah's contract up next summer, Slot may want to use the money they could get for Salah to improve the attack.

The reds could also do with a defensive midfielder as Wataru Endo is only 31. Endo did have a decent debut season at Anfield but with him being in his 30's and approaching the latter years of his career, Slot may want to bring in someone younger so he has someone in that position for the longer term.
