Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 9

FRIDAY:

LEICESTER V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Leicester come into this game off the back of back to back wins over Bournemouth and Southampton, the latter they had to come from behind to win.

Foxes boss Steve Cooper faces Forest for the first time since he was sacked by them last December. He did a magnificent job at Forest, but I still wonder what kind of reception he'll receive from the Forest supporters with Leicester being one of their local rivals.

Forest got off the mark at home on Monday against Crystal Palace which moved them up to 8th in the league table.

They're currently unbeaten on the road this season, which is very surprising as they've been dreadful on the road in each of the last two seasons.

Nuno's side may still be without talisman Morgan Gibbs-White for this one, but I do think they can win this one as they have other players in their attack who can step up.

PREDICTION: 0-2

SATURDAY:

ASTON VILLA V BOURNEMOUTH

Aston Villa have managed their squad very well this season and I knew they would because of the amount of options they have.

Unai Emery's side have some tough games coming up with Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea in three of their next four league games after this one. They also have a tough Champions League game against Juventus in between that run.

Bournemouth were brilliant in their win over Arsenal last weekend and will come into this game with a lot of confidence on board.

I think they'll have a go at Villa like they did against Arsenal and I can even see them scoring.

But I think Villa's quality will be enough for them here.

PREDICTION: 3-1

BRENTFORD V IPSWICH

Brentford have had a decent record at home since they've been in the Premier League and they've kept it up this season, as they're unbeaten at home.

Ipswich are still without a win since their return to the Premier League, and have recently been taught some lessons about how ruthless the Premier League can be. Mainly in their two recent defeats against West Ham and Everton.

They have looked competitive in most of their games this season by staying in games and I think they'll show that competitiveness in this one.

But with Brentford being at home and having more Premier League knowhow, I think Thomas Frank's side will come out on top here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

BRIGHTON V WOLVES

Brighton showed a different side to themselves against Newcastle by being resilient at the back, and they had to be due to the amount of pressure Newcastle threw at them.

Losing Danny Welbeck in that one was a blow as he's been in such good form this season. Even Ferguson will probably step in his place and this game could give him the chance to show his manager what he can do.

Wolves will be glad that they have some winnable fixtures coming up after a tough run of games in the opening months of the season.

Gary O'Neil's side have shown a lot of fight in their games this season, including in their defeat to Man City where they conceded a controversial late winner, but they haven't had the results to go with their efforts.

Their upcoming fixtures will give them a chance of getting some points on the board, but not this one as I think Brighton will come out on top here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

MAN CITY V SOUTHAMPTON

Man City showed their class against Sparta Prague in midweek with Erling Haaland's Zlatan-esque goal being the best of the bunch.

Haaland hasn't scored in his last three games in the league, but I reckon he'll get at least two in this one.

Southampton must've been kicking themselves after letting that two goal lead slip against Leicester, after a decent performance in the first half.

They've been caught out when playing out from the back a lot this season and I don't see that changing as Russell Martin is willing to stick to his principles.

As they're likely to play that way in this one, I can only see City giving them a battering here.

PREDICTION: 5-0

EVERTON V FULHAM

Everton have found some form recently and are looking like a side who have gone back to basics, after looking very open in the early weeks of the season.

They'll have Jarrad Branthwaite back for this one which is a massive boost because they're a much better team defensively when he play. Hopefully they can keep him fit.

Fulham have won their last three games at Goodison Park, but they're not as good away as they are at home.

With Everton in the form they're in and them being at home, I can see them keep up their current run of form.

PREDICTION: 2-1

SUNDAY:

CHELSEA V NEWCASTLE

There were positives for Chelsea to take from their defeat at Liverpool, which Enzo Maresca described as his side's best performance since he took over.

It was good to see Reece James back in that game and I'm hoping that he can keep himself fit so he can get a run of games under his belt.

Newcastle had a lot of chances against Brighton, but they weren't able to take them and their wastefulness was what cost them the game.

Scoring goals has been their problem this season and they'll be hoping that Alexander Isak's return from injury will help address that issue.

I think their goal scoring issues will be extended here as I think Chelsea will both win the game and have enough in them defensively to keep a clean sheet.

PREDICTION: 2-0

CRYSTAL PALACE V TOTTENHAM

Crystal Palace appear to be a side lacking confidence as they're still chasing that first win of the season.

I do hope Oliver Glasner gets the chance to turn things around because of the job he did towards the end of last season. But he's a man under pressure and he needs results fast.

Spurs were very good in the second half against West Ham, which was a good response to the defeat at Brighton before the international break.

Their subs made a big difference against West Ham and their impact showed that Spurs do have players who can step up when needed.

The last time Spurs were on the road they ended up throwing away a two goal lead against Brighton. I don't see a repeat of that happening in this one as I can see this being a fairly straightforward win for them. Especially with Palace out of form and low on confidence.

PREDICTION: 1-3

WEST HAM V MAN UNITED

West Ham have won this fixture in each of the last two seasons and they'll be looking to pick up another win in this one.

They were well beaten by Spurs last weekend and Julen Lopetegui will want his side to show some sort of reaction here.

Man United were very good in the second half against Brentford as they came out with more intensity and were more up for it.

But I don't see them repeat that performance in this one as they're such an inconsistent side both in terms of results and performances.

West Ham might not have started great under Lopetegui, but I have a feeling that they'll make the most of another flat Man United performance.

PREDICTION: 2-0

ARSENAL V LIVERPOOL

This might be Arsenal's biggest test of the season due to all the players they have unavailable, including William Saliba who is suspended following his sending off against Bournemouth.

They'll also be without Califiori who went off in mid-week against Shakhtar Donetsk which leaves them short of options in defence.

There is a chance that Bukayo Saka might be fit, but I'm not sure if Mikel Arteta will take the risk despite this being a big game for his side.

Liverpool passed their first big test last weekend against Chelsea and they have another one coming up in this one. If they win here, people may see them as serious title contenders.

They had to work for their win over RB Leipzig in midweek and especially in the latter stages where Leipzig began to put the pressure on them. But they got there in the end.

I would've probably predicted an Arsenal win had they had most of their key players available, but as they're missing the likes of Odegaard, Saliba and potentially Saka, I think the reds can pounce on this and strengthen their title credentials.

PREDICTION: 0-2
