Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 7

SATURDAY:

CRYSTAL PALACE V LIVERPOOL

Crystal Palace's win at Anfield towards the end of last season was the start of their late season resurgence and they'll want to kick off something similar by beating the same opponents again.

Palace are still without a win in the league this season, but there have been some encouraging signs from them in the games they've played this season.

Liverpool come into this game at the top of the table following their win at Wolves last weekend, and if they're still there by the end of this weekend, some people could have them down as title contenders.

It was more of less job done for the reds against Bologna in midweek where they weren't at their brilliant best, but still got the job done.

This game won't be particularly straightforward for them as Palace will cause them some problems. But Arne Slot's side should still have enough quality to win the game.

PREDICTION: 0-2

ARSENAL V SOUTHAMPTON

Arsenal controlled the game well against PSG in midweek and winning that game will have sent out a message to the other top sides in the Champions League.

They've adapted well without skipper Martin Odegaard, who could be back after the international break, by finding different ways to get results and doing that has strengthened their title credentials.

Some people might have them down as title favourites with City being without Rodri for the rest of the season. But I wouldn't say that just yet as it's still early days.

Southampton already look like a side set for relegation and their manager Russell Martin already finds his job on the line, according to the papers.

I can understand why that might be the case as his side are still winless in the league, and showing very little signs of improvement.

The Saints need to show a reaction and put in a performance here if they're to give their fans something to cheer about.

But I don't see it happening as I think Arsenal will be too strong for them with the quality they have.

PREDICTION: 3-0

BRENTFORD V WOLVES

Brentford have been the kings of early starts in recent weeks after scoring in the first minute of each of their last three games. But they weren't able to hold on to the lead in any of those three games.

The Bees have dropped more points from winning positions than any other side since the start of last season and it's something that Thomas Frank needs to address.

Wolves will see this game as an opportunity to get some points on the board with it being more winnable than the others they've had so far this season.

Gary O'Neil's side are at the foot of the table with just a point to their name and although they have had encouraging moments in games, they need to start getting points on the board.

I fancy Brentford to score first here due to how start they've started games in recent weeks. But I think Wolves will snatch a point as they have players who can score goals, and the Bees can't hold on to leads.

PREDICTION: 1-1

LEICESTER V BOURNEMOUTH

Leicester showed character to come from behind against Arsenal and it was so cruel for them to concede two late goals in stoppage time and lose the game.

Bournemouth were excellent against Southampton on Monday and especially in that first half. It was good to see Evanilson get off the mark for the Cherries in that one and it'll hopefully give him the confidence to score more.

The Cherries will have most of the ball here as they're a possession based side. But I have a feeling that Leicester will nick it and get their first win of the season.

I can see a trademark counter attacking goal from Jamie Vardy to win them the game.

PREDICTION: 2-1

MAN CITY V FULHAM

Man City showed their quality against Slovan Bratislava in midweek where Phil Foden in particular stood out.

His season was yet to get going before the game and his overall performance on the night will hopefully be the one that helps kickstart his season.

Fulham have started the season very well and they probably deserve more credit for it. Especially as they lost main man Joao Palhinha in the summer to Bayern Munich.

They haven't really missed Palhinha since he left as they still have that resilience they had for much of last season.

Marco Silva's side lost this fixture 5-1 last season and although I don't think they'll lose by that much in this one, I still think City will have too much for them.

PREDICTION: 3-1

WEST HAM V IPSWICH

West Ham got a draw at Brentford last weekend which was an important result for them. Especially as they went into the game off the back of two heavy defeats, to Chelsea in the league and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The Hammers have lost every home game so far this season and Julen Lopetegui will want his side to get off the mark at home in this one, which is more winnable than the other games they've had at home.

Ipswich may still be waiting for their first win back in the top flight, but they've actually made a decent start as they're currently 15th.

They've shown some encouraging signs in most of their games this season and they showed against Villa that they can compete at this level.

Both sides really need to win this one and with West Ham arguably being the more desperate due to the pressure they're under, I think they'll come out on top here.

PREDICTION: 2-1

EVERTON V NEWCASTLE

Everton finally got off the mark last weekend with their win over Crystal Palace which will hopefully give them the confidence they've been lacking all season.

Jarrad Branthwaite made his return in that game, and having him back is one massive boost for the Toffees because he's been a massive miss for them.

Newcastle are yet to play at their best this season, but they did get a deserved point against Man City last weekend.

The Magpies were beaten 3-0 in this fixture last season where in all fairness, they were without a lot of players due to injury, as a result of them being in Europe and having a stretched squad.

They should fare better in this one as they don't have as many players out injured. But they are missing one or two important ones, including Alexander Isak.

Everton will make it difficult for them defensively and especially as they have Branthwaite back. Because of this and the Magpies being without a recognised striker to cause the defence problems, I can see the points being shared here.

PREDICTION: 1-1

SUNDAY:

ASTON VILLA V MAN UNITED

Aston Villa had the night of their life in midweek after beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League, where they were excellent throughout.

They did however lose three players to injury in Onana, Ramsey and Bailey who will all be unavailable for this one. Their squad depth will be put to the test here.

Man United were many things against Spurs and especially in that first half, which was by far their worst spell of the game.

The club are still behind Erik Ten Hag as they said after the game. But for how long?

I said after the game that he was very close to being sacked and if his side lose this one as well, his head could well be on the chopping block.

Villa have more of an identity in how they play than United do and because of that, I think they'll be the side that come out on top here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

CHELSEA V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Chelsea have arguably been one of the surprise packages of the season, when you consider everything that went on in the summer.

They've looked more like a team than they did in each of the last two seasons and and especially from an attacking sense. The forward players have linked up very well and have been a joy to watch.

Nottingham Forest saw their unbeaten start ended by Fulham last weekend, Nuno will still feel satisfied with his sides' strong start to the season.

They've been much improved away from home this season as they're yet to lose on their travels. They recently beat Liverpool on the road and they'll no doubt be looking to repeat that victory in this one.

But with the form that Chelsea have been in this season, I have to give them the win here.

PREDICTION: 2-1

BRIGHTON V TOTTENHAM

Brighton's good start under Fabian Hurzeler has fizzled out in recent weeks and they're also becoming easy to play against.

Their high line was heavily exposed against Chelsea like it was the week before against Forest and I think it will get exposed again here. Especially as Spurs have players who can break at pace.

Spurs won't change the way they play under Ange Postecoglou and if Brighton stick with their high line, I can see Spurs exploit it many times.

Both teams will have chances as they both play an expansive and open style of football. But I think Spurs will have the quality to finish the game off.

PREDICTION: 1-3
