Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 21 - Part 1

FRIDAY:

BURNLEY V LUTON

Burnley have the worst home record in the league this season with one win at home all season which was their 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United.

The Clarets have shown signs that they're adapting to the Premier League in recent games and they put in a dogged display against Spurs in the FA Cup. If they can be more like that, they might have a chance.

Luton haven't been as good away as they have been at home but they have improved since the early weeks of the season in terms of their performances.

They're a better team defensively than Burnley as they're a side who are tough to beat and resilient. But like the Clarets, they haven't score enough goals to win more games.

Burnley have struggled at home this season but as they won the reverse at Kenilworth Road, I think they'll do the same here.

PREDICTION: 2-1

SATURDAY:

CHELSEA V FULHAM

Goals have been Chelsea's achilles heal this season and their problems in front of goal continued in midweek against Middlesbrough where they had a number of chances, but weren't able to take them.

They obviously need a striker but getting one in the transfer window won't be easy as not many of them will be available at this time of year.

Fulham usually perform well when taking on the bigger teams and they did so again in midweek against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. A game they were unlucky not to get something from.

The Cottagers will set themselves up to be compact and tough to play against as Chelsea are likely to have most of the possession. From this they'll look to hit the blues on the counter attack.

Chelsea might be wasteful in the final third, but they are on a good run at home and I have a sneaky feeling they'll nick this one.

PREDICTION: 2-1

NEWCASTLE V MAN CITY

Newcastle needed that win against Sunderland in the FA Cup which will hopefully reinstall some much needed confidence.

Building on that win could be difficult as they have two tough games coming up starting with this one followed by Aston Villa away in two weeks.

The Magpies beat City in this fixture in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season and also gave them a good game last season when the two sides met at St James' Park. I don't see either happening here with the amount of players that Newcastle out injured and City beginning to find some form.

Man City have Kevin De Bruyne back after he made his comeback against Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Having him back is a significant boost for City and with Erling Haaland back soon form his injury, the rest of the Premier League will be wary.

Haaland could be back for this one but if he isn't, City should still take the points here as Alvarez is more than capable of stepping up. With De Bruyne back as well alongside Newcastle's current injury crisis, this result will only go one way.

PREDICTION: 1-3

SUNDAY:

EVERTON V ASTON VILLA

Everton will have Dominic Calvert-Lewin available for this game after the appeal against his red card against Crystal Palace was successful. This will no doubt be good news for the Toffees as Calvert-Lewin is arguably their most important player.

The Toffees were drawn back into the relegation picture during the Christmas period after losing three straight games and Sean Dyche will be determined to get his side back on track.

Aston Villa have been flying this season with Unai Emery's side currently in 2nd place. But I wouldn't call them title contenders just yet as there is still a long way to go.

Their away form hasn't been quite as good as their home form and the last time they were on the road, they let a two goal lead slip against Man United on Boxing Day.

Everton will definitely make it difficult for them as they're a tough side to beat and will have the Goodison Park atmosphere on their side. Because of this I can see them nick a point here.

PREDICTION: 1-1

MAN UNITED V TOTTENHAM

Which Man United will turn up for this one? The One that came out showed a positive attitude to come from behind against Villa on Boxing Day, or the one that looked flat against Nottingham Forest.

I just don't know and it because of how inconsistent they've been this season. One week they look awful then the next they show a reaction.

Spurs I felt missed Heung Min Son against Burnley last weekend as they lacked someone who could run in behind and stretch the opposition defence. They needed a Pedro Porro rocket to win them the game.

Ange Postecoglou's side still have number of players out injured, but that isn't going to change how they approach this one.

Their style of play has been brilliant to watch this season, but in playing that way they've left a lot of gaps in behind their defence.

United haven't been at all convincing going forward this season but they do have players who can run in behind their defence and cause problems. I can somehow see them show up here and exploit Spurs' high line.

PREDICTION: 2-1
