Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 19

BOXING DAY:

NEWCASTLE V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Newcastle still have a host of players out injured, but they'll be glad to be back at home for this one as they've been much better at home than they have been on the road.

They were disappointing against Luton on Saturday as there was no intensity from them off the ball. But I think they'll bounce back as they'll have the St James' Park crowd behind them.

There were positives to take for Nottingham Forest in their first match under Nuno Espirito Santo in that they created some good chances. They might've got something had Willy Boly not been wrongfully sent off.

Their away form is still a concern like it was for the whole of last season and with Newcastle being strong at home, I can't see it changing here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

BOURNEMOUTH V FULHAM

Bournemouth were one of my relegation favourites at the start of the season as I didn't think they would score enough goals. Well, they have only gone and proved me wrong as they have an in-form striker in Dominic Solanke, who I doubted as a Premier League quality striker.

Solanke has 5 goals in his last four league games including a hat trick against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. I can see him keep up his good form in this one and if he can keep it up over the next month or so, it wouldn't surprise me if he got an England call-up.

Fulham's good run of form has ended following back to back defeats to Newcastle and Burnley which have seen them drop down to 13th.

They still have Raul Jimenez suspended following and I did think that they missed him against Burnley.

With Bournemouth having a striker in-form and the team being on a good run of form themselves, I think they'll take the points here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

SHEFFIELD UNITED V LUTON

Sheffield United have been tougher to beat since Chris Wilder returned and they put in a resilient display against Aston Villa on Friday where they came away with an unlikely point.

The Blades finished above Luton in the Championship last season and you would think that they would be above them in the Premier League this season. But things are completely the other way round with Luton being the more competitive side.

Luton really were playing for captain Tom Lockyer against Newcastle on Saturday and it's good to hear that he's at home and out of hospital.

The Hatters won this fixture 1-0 in the Championship last season, but I don't see a repeat of that here.

The Blades don't score many goals, but they will have the Bramall Lane crowd behind them here and I can see it carry them to victory here.

PREDICTION: 1-0

BURNLEY V LIVERPOOL

Burnley are showing signs that they're adapting to life in the Premier League and they got a good win last time out against Fulham.

But they have struggled at home this season and are still vulnerable defensively. With Liverpool obviously having some very good attacking players, this could be another long evening for the Clarets.

Liverpool might see their draw with Arsenal as two points dropped rather than a point gained as they did have one or two chances that they should've taken. But a draw in the end was probably a fair result.

With the Clarets struggling at home and the reds obviously having some very dangerous players in attack, I think the latter will win this one and comfortably.

PREDICTION: 0-3

MAN UNITED V ASTON VILLA

I'm not sure if I know what Man United are anymore. They have no identity in the way and many of their performances this season can back that up. They also appear to have no plan in place whatsoever.

Aston Villa on the other hand are the complete opposite and they have made more progress in one year under Unai Emery than United have made in a year and a half under Ten Hag.

Villa haven't quite been as good away as they have been at home, but I still think they'll win this one as they're much better team than Man United are at the moment.

PREDICTION: 0-2

WEDNESDAY:

BRENTFORD V WOLVES

Brentford didn't play at the weekend due to their game against Man City being postponed as City were at the Club World Cup. This could give them the advantage here as they've had more time to prepare for this game unlike Wolves who only beat Chelsea on Christmas Eve.

That and the Bees' strong record at home will give Thomas Frank's side a major boost heading into this game. But they're still without Bryan Mbeumo who has been a big miss for them recently.

Wolves like Brentford are a side who are competitive and tough to play against and I think it will be a very close game because of that.

Both teams will go for it as they have both have good attacking players on show. But as they're both decent defensively, I think they'll both cancel each other out.

PREDICTION: 1-1

CHELSEA V CRYSTAL PALACE

Chelsea haven't had a great record when playing at home over the course of the year but they do have a good record when facing Crystal Palace.

They've won their last 11 league games against the Eagles and I think they'll record another one here. Especially with the Eagles out of form.

Crystal Palace haven't won any of their last seven league games and are currently just six points above the relegation zone.

They will look to make it difficult for Chelsea as they're a tough side to beat. But I think the blues to come away with the points because of their recent record against Palace.

PREDICTION: 2-0

EVERTON V MAN CITY

Everton were unlucky not to come away with a draw against Spurs on Saturday as they had a number of good chances towards the end.

Sean Dyche's side are a tough nut to crack defensively. But they do also play some good stuff going forward and are much better in the final third than they were at the start of the season.

Man City weren't themselves before heading out to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup and they come into this one outside the top four.

But their Club World Cup win could give them some reinstalled confidence to help them get back to the standards they're reached in previous seasons.

This game could be a tough one though and I think it will as Everton will no doubt make it difficult for them.

With Erling Haaland likely to miss this one through injury and Kevin De Bruyne not yet ready to return, I think it will be more dropped points for City here.

PREDICTION: 1-1

THURSDAY:

BRIGHTON V TOTTENHAM

There will definitely be goals in this one as both sides play high risk football and that will not change here.

Brighton have been found out when playing out from the back on multiple occasions this season including in their draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday. The goal they conceded came from a mistake from their keeper trying to play out from the back.

They'll carry on playing that way as that is how De Zerbi wants them to play and I can see them get punished again here. Especially as Spurs are a team who press very high and who have some quality attacking players.

Spurs are only four points off the top but aren't being talked about as title contenders. That is probably because they've only just found some form after going a month without a win.

They're definitely going to concede here as they play with a high line that Brighton are more than capable of exploiting.

But I also think they'll cause the Seagulls problems as they have some quality attacking players and Brighton are also likely to leave gaps in behind their defence.

PREDICTION: 2-4

ARSENAL V WEST HAM

Arsenal for the second season running are top of the table at Christmas and arguably have a better chance of winning the league this season than they did last season. That is because they're better defensively and there is a better balance to their squad.

West Ham are 6th in the table yet some of their fans are not sure about David Moyes. The club has come a long way under his management and those fans who question him probably don't give him enough credit for the job he's done.

The Hammers will make it tough for Arsenal here as they're a competitive side who are tough to beat. But I think the Gunners will find a way to win like they have done for much of the season.

PREDICTION: 2-0
