Man United Managers post Fergie ranked

Man United are looking for their seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson left following the sacking on recent manager Erik Ten Hag on Monday.

Not one of the managers they've had since has worked out and before they appoint their next one, I've decided to rank all the managers they've had since Fergie based on how they did during their times at the club.

  1. Ralf Rangnick

2021-2022

Rangnick was brought in as an interim manager when he arrived in November 2021, and we was supposed to bring in a pressing style of play. But it never happened as United looked all over the place as a team and went on to their then worst ever season.

  1. David Moyes

2013-2014

Moyes was chosen as Fergie's successor by Fergie himself, but he turned out to be the wrong choice as United finished 7th in his first and only season in charge. The job was too big for him and he lacked experience in managing big name players.

  1. Louis Van Gaal

2014-2016

Van Gaal was United's first big name appointment due to the success he had at his previous clubs. But he wasn't able to repeat that success at United as his football was boring to watch and it lead him to getting the sack. He did win the FA Cup in his final season, but it wasn't enough for him to carry on.

  1. Erik Ten Hag

2022-2024

I thought Ten Hag was going to be the man to get United back to where they once were, but it didn't turn out that way as his team had no clear identity in the way they played. He did win two trophies, but his team were not brilliant to watch and went on to have their worst ever top flight season in many years.

  1. Jose Mourinho

2016-2018

Mourinho won two trophies in his first season at Old Trafford before leading them to a 2nd place finish a year later, which he later described as his greatest ever achievement. But his football wasn't great to watch and the club became toxic under his management.

  1. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

2018-2021

He may not have won anything, but Solskjaer for me was still the best Man United manager post-Fergie as the mood around the club was better during his time in charge. He got the players playing with a freedom when he first arrived, and although he did find himself under pressure on a few occasions, he got over it and delivered two top four finishes.
