Key Points of the Weekend

Are Arsenal now title favourites?

Arsenal again showed signs of being title contenders in their win over Leicester on Saturday as they scored two late goals to win the game, after letting a two goal lead slip.

With Man City now without the influential Rodri for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury, are Arsenal now title favourites?

They'll definitely feel that they have a very good chance because of the progress they've made over the last of years, and the fact that City will be without Rodri for the rest of the season.

Rodri was a big miss for City when he was out of the team last season as they didn't control games as well as they do when he's in the team. They lost all but one game without him in the side last season which shows how important he is to them.

City do have a strong squad and the knowhow in winning titles, but without Rodri dictating play in midfield, they could drop a lot of points because of how much of a difference he makes to them. The last time they lost a player of such importance was back in the 2019-20 season, where they lost their best defender at the time in Aymeric Laporte to a serious injury and they really missed him in their backline. They struggled a lot defensively as a result of this and were also beaten to the title by Liverpool.

Arsenal are currently without one of their main men in Martin Odegaard, but fortunately for them he's not going to be out as long and the team are finding ways to win games. This is both a sign of them being title contenders and a sign of their togetherness.

They had the best defence in the league last season as they narrowly missed out on winning the title. They've looked solid at the back again this season where they're expecting to have another crack at the title. If they can win games they way have done recently and ounce on any dropped points by City, they could be the favourites for the title.

Are Liverpool title contenders?

Liverpool went top of the league following their win over Wolves on Saturday and Man City dropping points in their game at Newcastle.

They've made an excellent start under new manager Arne Slot and with the reds being top of the league, could they be title contenders?

Slot said after his side's win over Wolves that being top after six games "doesn't mean much" and I can understand why he said that. It's because he'll want his team to go quietly about their business and not get carried away.

They obviously weren't seen as title contenders at the start of the season because a lot of people thought Slot would take time after replacing a true icon in Jurgen Klopp. But going under the radar could go in their favour as not many people will be speaking about them challenging for or winning the title. Arsenal and Man City will be the teams they speak about in terms of that category.

The reds also have players in their squad who know what it takes to win a title. Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson and Salah were all part of the side that won the title in 2020 and their experience from that will be a massive benefit for them.

If they can stay within touching distance of the top two and keep key players fit, they could potentially challenge with City and Arsenal.

Brentford have not learnt lessons from last season

Brentford dropped more points from winning positions than any other team last season and that problem has been carried into this season.

They've started games brilliantly in recent weeks by scoring within the first minute in each of their last three games, but they weren't able to see those games out. This is a sign that they haven't learnt their lessons from last season.

There is an argument that two of their last three games were against top opposition in Man City and Spurs, who both have the quality and the ability to turn games round. But against a West Ham side who were out of form, they should've been able to hold onto their lead and nick the second goal.

Brentford have been a brilliant addition to the Premier League ever since they've been there as they've been competitive and a good team to watch. But if they're to progress this season and become a top 10 side, they need to see games out better.

Seeing games out is now very much their Achilles heal and they can improve on that by getting the second goal to ensure the victory or managing the game well when the opponent is putting the pressure on.

Ten Hag very close to getting the sack

Erik Ten Hag has been under a lot of pressure for a while now at Man United and especially since the start of the season, after United's worst ever season for many years. After his side's shambolic showing in their defeat to Spurs on Sunday, I now think he's very close to getting the sack.

He could've been sacked at the end of last season, but winning the FA Cup pretty much saved him. He was later rewarded with a new contract by the new co-owners INEOS who backed him in the summer to bring in new players. But none of their new signings have made an impact yet.

I said at the end of last season that United needed a squad clear-out in the summer as there were a number of underperforming players in their squad. But it never really happened as most of those underperforming players are still at the club.

INEOS may be backing him to turn things around, but for how long? United are 12th in the Premier League with a negative goal difference and have made no progress under Ten Hag's management. There is no clear identity in how they play which has been an issue for some time alongside a lack of leaders on the pitch.

If results don't improve over the next few weeks, the owners may have a decision to make.

Is Liam Delap the man to guide Ipswich to safety?

If there is one thing that every newly promoted club needs when they come up into the Premier League, it's a central striker who knows where the back of the net is. Ipswich might have that player in Liam Delap who has made a decent start to life in the Premier League with 3 goals from 6 games.

Is he the man to guide Ipswich to safety?

He scored two very well taken goals in the Tractor Boys' 2-2 with Aston Villa on Sunday where he was constantly on the move in and around the box. He was in the right place to get his first goal and for his second, he collected the ball from a wide area before evading the defence and scoring the equaliser.

His start to the season will definitely give him a lot of confidence moving forward as goals and good performances give a striker exactly that. Kieran McKenna will need him to carry this confidence into their coming games so they can start winning football matches.

If he can keep up this good start and score the amount of goals required of him at this level, he could be the man that guides Ipswich to survival.
