Key Points of the Weekend

Could Luton be worse than Derby?

Luton became the first newly promoted side to lose all four of their opening league games in Premier League history on Saturday following their 1-0 loss at Fulham. It might be too early in the season to do comparisons to other sides, but Could Luton be worse than Derby from the 2007-08 season?

Derby picked up just 11 points that season which is the worst points tally in Premier League history. They might've picked up a point within their first four games unlike Luton, but they still went on to set an unwanted record.

There were positives to take for Luton from their defeat at Fulham, but it was another defeat and the longer they go without a win, the lower their confidence will drop. They're already in for a tough season and are beginning to learn some harsh lessons about Premier League football.

There is still a long way in the season to go, but if Luton don't learn their lessons quickly enough, they could potentially have a lower points total than Derby did the season they went down.

Man United are lacking leaders

This has arguably been the case with Man United for a while for a while and is was evident in their defeat to Brighton on Saturday. All the goals were defended poorly and one reason why they were defended poorly was because of the lack of leaders in their team. Especially in their backline.

Their was no organisation or communication in their backline against Brighton as the Seagulls were given too much space and were able to score their goals without too much pressure being put on them. That was down to a lack of leaders on the pitch and none of United's defenders are leader material. Muh like the majority of their squad.

They always had leaders in their backline in the past whether that be Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic or Gary Neville. Since then they haven't had any as their defence has been scrutinised on several occasions and the team is no longer the dominant force they were.

Chelsea still struggling for goals

Scoring goals was Chelsea's main problem last season and it appears to be the same this season. They created a lot of chances and got into a number of good positions against Bournemouth on Sunday, but they didn't have someone to put the ball in the net.

This problem should've been addressed in the summer and it clearly wasn't with new signing Nicolas Jackson yet to convince. He was barely in the game against Bournemouth and will need to do better if he's to start scoring goals.

The blues have arguably lacked a goal scorer for a while with Diego Costa being their last out and out goal scorer whilst Eden Hazard was the last player to score 15+ goals for them. Both players have not been replaced since their respective departures in 2017 and 2019.

The blues might've spent a huge amount of money in the summer, but none of it was spent on a centre forward who knows where the back of the net is.
