Sheffield United never had the quality to compete in the Premier League
Sheffield United's relegation was confirmed at the weekend following their 5-1 defeat at Newcastle sealing them an immediate return to the Championship. When I look back at their season as a whole, they never had the quality to compete at this level.
They weren't at all helped by a poor summer where they struggled to get players through the door and also lost two of their best players in Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye. Both of whom were key in their promotion campaign last season. They never really stood much of a chance of them not spending any money and losint their best players.
In terms of next season, bouncing straight back up will be very tough as they'll be starting the season with a points deduction for defaulting on payments during the 2022/23 season. Also the players are likely to still feel down after their relegation and it could take them time to get over it.
Could Brighton's poor form cost De Zerbi his chance of managing a big club?
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with a number of jobs over the past month or so and that speculation has no doubt affected his sides' form. Could Brighton's poor form cost him the chance of managing a big club?
After the heights they hit last season in finishing 6th, the Seagulls are in danger of finishing outside the top 10 as they now lie in 12th and are four points off 10th placed Bournemouth. A top 10 finish is still achievable, but the Seagulls do have some tough games to end the season with. They play Aston Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea and Man United in their final four games.
De Zerbi has done a wonderful job at Brighton and he deserved to be linked with the top jobs because of the football his side play and how far he has taken Brighton. But with his side set to end the season with a whimper and in danger of missing out on a top 10 finish, he might've missed his chance to get a top job.
Title now between City and Arsenal
We were set to witness a three-way title race heading into the final stretch of the season and it was set up as arguably the greatest title race in Premier League history. But it now looks like it's going to be between two teams in Man City and Arsenal as they're the two sides in-form.
Liverpool still have a mathematical chance of winning the title, but their recent slump has pretty much ended their hopes. All they can hope for is for both City and Arsenal to slip up but due to the form both sides are in, any slip up from them looks unlikely.
City have been in this situation many times before and they know what it takes to a title from this. Arsenal have boiled under the pressure ion the past but I don't see that being the case this season because they're a much better team this season than they were last season and they've shown that in recent games. Because of this and the form they're both in, the title looks very much set to be Between both Man City and Arsenal.
