Key Points of the Weekend

De Bruyne showing how much City missed him

Before Christmas, I asked if City were missing Kevin De Bruyne as they were in the middle of a barren run of form. His influence in the middle of the park was a big miss as they missed someone who could take control of games and change the tempo of them.

Against Newcastle on Saturday, he showed everyone how much they missed him and the impact he can have on games. He completely changed the game when he came off the bench in the 69th minute as he was always looking to make something happen with his ability to play passes from anywhere on the pitch and create chances. His equalising goal not long after coming on and assist for Oscar Bobb's winning goal were key in City coming away with the three points, and were also a reminder of his class and quality.

With him now back, City are more than likely to go on one of those incredible runs they go on in the second half of the season. Especially with Erling Haaland on his way back also.

Is Dominic Calvert-Lewin's form becoming a worry for Everton?

It's been nearly three months since Dominic Calvert-Lewin last scored with his last one coming in a 1-0 win over West Ham in October. His struggles in front of goal continued at the weekend as he drew another blank in Everton's goalless draw with Aston Villa. A game where he missed a big opportunity that he should've taken.

Is his form becoming a worry for Everton?

HIs lack of form could be down to two things: A lack of confidence or injuries. He's been plagued by injuries for the last two seasons and this season, he has finally been given a run of games where he's been free of them. His history with injuries could be part of his poor form because he could be worried about picking up another one and after missing a lot of games over the last two seasons, he might've lost that sharpness he had before his injury problems.

The latter has probably lead to a lack of confidence as he might not have the same belief to score goals as he once did. It can take time for a player to rediscover that spark they once had and Calvert-Lewin is is definitely one of them at this moment in time.

The Toffees haven't scored many goals this season and part of it is down to a lack of a clinical no.9. Calvert-Lewin still has the potential to be that player but the longer his goal drought goes on, his form could a worrying sign for the Toffees.
