Sam Allardyce was appointed as the new manager of West Brom earlier today following the sacking of Slaven Bilic with the club 19th in the Premier League and just one win to their name so far. So is he the man to keep West Brom up?
I understand why West Brom appointed him because they're struggling in the league and Big Sam himself has never been relegated. The Baggies have conceded 26 goals which is more than any other team in the league this season and that's another reason to appoint Big Sam because he sets up his teams to be solid and organised defensively and that's what West Brom need to be if they're to stay up.
This job will be similar to the job he did at Sunderland and Crystal Palace because both of them were in the bottom three when he arrived and he made both of them difficult to beat which played a part in both of them staying up in their respective seasons. He arrived at both of those clubs at a good time and has arrived at West Brom at a good time as well because it's not long until the January transfer window opens and Allardyce used the January transfer window when he was at Sunderland and Crystal Palace to bring in players to help his sides stay up. At Sunderland he brought in Lamine Kone and Jan Kirchhoff who during the January transfer window of that season and they made Sunderland more difficult to beat and they both played a key role in staying up. At Crystal Palace he signed Mamadou Sakho and Luka Milivojevic who like Kone and Kirchhoff played a key role in Crystal Palace staying up by helping Palace become a difficult side to play against.
It will take him time to get the results that West Brom need to stay up because the current West Brom team aren't looking like a Premier League team. But if he can get backed in the January transfer window, he'll be able to bring in the players that West Brom need in order for them to stay up because post January will be the period where his team will be up and running and hopefully on a run of results to stay up like most teams fighting relegation tend to do.
