Euro 2024 Final Preview

PROBABLE STARTING LINE UPS FOR BOTH TEAMS

These two countries met in the Women's World Cup final last year and not many people predicted them to meet a year later at the men's Euros.

Spain will in most people's eyes be seen as the favourites to win this final as they've no doubt been the best team at this tournament.

They showed why in their win over France in the semi finals in the way they moved the ball and controlled the game. Lamine Yamal's wonder strike sent them on their way in that one, and Yamal himself is no doubt a star in the making. He's a strong contender for player of the tournament despite only being 17.

I was listening to an interview that Cesc Fabregas did the other day where he said that this Spain side were relatively unknown, much like the side he was part of back in 2008. That side were at the start of their journey, just like this team are with most of their players being relatively young.

England's semi final win over Holland was arguably their best performance of the tournament so far even though they were lucky with that dodgy penalty call that went in their favour.

Gareth Southgate has had his critics at this tournament and particularly when it comes to making his subs late. But his subs do make an impact like they did against Holland with Cole Palmer setting up Ollie Watkins for the winning goal. Both players will be looking to do the same in this final should they be required.

If England start this game well, they'll need to keep it up for the rest of the game because they've been guilty of not building on promising starts in the past. The final three years ago being an example as they sat back and let Italy back in the game.

Gareth Southgate will have hopefully learned his lesson from that final and this game could be his final one as England boss, with his contract up at the end of this tournament. He'll be determined to go out on a high if this game does happen to be his final one.

PREDICTION:

As much as I want England to win this final, I'm afraid I have to go for Spain here as they've been by far the best team at this tournament. They've been a more convincing team to watch than England and because of that, I can see them put in another dominant display to win this final.
