The draw for Euro 2024 was made yesterday and there are some interesting games to look forward to when the tournament kicks off next summer.
This is what I think of the draw.
The Group of death is without a doubt Group B which contains Spain, Croatia, Italy and Albania. Spain will probably be favourites to win the group as their squad has a lot of potential whilst second place is likely to be contested between Italy and Croatia. Holders Italy will probably be the favourites as they have more quality in their side but Croatia will still fancy their chances.
England will be more than happy with their group as they'll be facing Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia. Denmark will arguably be the tough game in their game as they have some quality players in their side and England obviously scraped past them in the semi finals of the last Euros. But England should still have enough to beat them and qualify for the last 16.
Scotland however have tough group as they'll be facing hosts Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. Germany may not be the team they once were, but they'll still be seen as the favourites to win the group as they have some top players in their side. Having home advantage will also give them a chance. Switzerland will arguably be the favourites to finish second due to their record of qualifying for the knockout stages in recent tournaments. Hungary are side who haven't really been fancied in the past but after qualifying for the knockout round at the last two Euros, I wouldn't rule them out. Scotland will of course give themselves a chance, but they have a tough task on their hands.
Group D looks set to be a two horse race between France and Holland who should both beat Austria and either Wales, Finland, Estonia or Poland. France should win the group because of the quality of players they have including Kylian Mbappe whilst the Dutch are more likely to finish second.
The weakest group of the draw is without a doubt Group E which contains Belgium, Slovakia, Romania and either Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine or Iceland. Belgium will definitely win the group as they players of a higher quality whilst second spot is up for grabs between the other three.
Portugal also have a straightforward group as they'll be facing teams they're more than capable of beating in Turkey, Czech Republic and either Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan or Luxembourg. Turkey and Czech Republic will be tough tests will be the most likely teams to battle for that second spot. But Roberto Martinez's side should still be able to overcome them.
