England U21 Champions: Which Players will make the step up into the senior squad?

England won the U21 Euro's last night beating Spain 1-0 in the final to win the tournament. The majority of them will definitely be looking to make the step up into the senior squad soon and I'm sure that Gareth Southgate will be monitoring them after their success this summer.

So which players in their squad will make the step up into the senior squad?

James Trafford

England did not concede a single goal during the tournament and Trafford's presence between the sticks was crucial to that. He pretty much won the game for them last night with his stoppage time penalty save from Abel Ruiz followed by another save from the rebound.

He's set to become the third most expensive English keeper this summer when his potential move to Burnley has been completed which will give him a great opportunity to promote himself. He'll have the opportunity to pit himself against some of the best players around if that move goes ahead and if he impresses, he could find himself in contention for a senior call up.

Levi Colwill

Despite conceding the penalty towards the end of the game last night, Colwill was solid right throughout the tournament as England kept a clean sheet in every game. He trained with senior squad last month ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia which tells us that Southgate is an admirer of him.

He had a decent loan spell at Brighton last season and he'll head back to Chelsea believing that he will finally get his chance. New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino likes to give young players opportunities and Colwill will be someone he'll be looking to give a chance to.

Jacob Ramsey

He might've missed the final through injury but over the course of the tournament, Ramsey was one of England's best players. His performances in midfield were crucial to England reaching the final and was the man who got their tournament started with the opening goal in their first game against the Czech Republic.

He had a strong end to the season with Aston Villa last season under Unai Emery under whom he became one of the first names on the team sheet. England are currently stacked in the midfield department but if Ramsey has another decent season with Villa this coming season, he could find himself being another option in there.

Morgan Gibbs-White

Gibbs-White was another standout player for England during the tournament as he registered 1 goal and 3 assists. His contributions and all round performances played a massive part in England going all the way and he was even touted for a call up to the senior squad at the back end of last season.

He had a decent season with Nottingham Forest last season as they avoided relegation with his form towards the end being crucial in that. If he can produce the form he showed at the back end of last season and at the Euros, he could put himself in contention for a call up. At 23 he should definitely be looking for a call up to the senior set up.

Anthony Gordon

Gordon was named player of the tournament at the Euros and had to play as the central striker where he did a decent job. His movement off the ball was good and he also won some crucial fouls. His performances up top were crucial to England going all the way. Despite him only scoring twice.

He completed a £40 million move to Newcastle back in January but hasn't been able to live up to that since his move. He'll hopefully get more opportunities this coming season and if he can take them, he could put himself in contention for a call up. Especially if he can add some end product to his game as that is something he'll need to work on.
