England Squad Verdict

Gareth Southgate announced his England squad earlier today ahead of next weeks friendly against the Republic of Ireland and Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland. Phil Foden is back in the squad after missing out on the last one due to him breaking Coronavirus quarantine rules alongwith Mason Greenwood who misses out.

Phil Foden deserves his recall because his performances on the pitch for Man City have been very good since that incident in Iceland and they have put him on the path of redemption. He's netted 3 goals in all competitions so far this season and has shown in his performances that he deserves to be back in the England squad and Gareth Southgate will be hoping that he has learned from the mistake he made back in September.

In terms of the rest of the squad, I'm surprised Reece James is in after earning a two game ban for his red card against Denmark last month and I'm also surprised that Ainsley Maitland Niles is still in the squad because he hasn't played many games for Arsenal recently in the Premier League with Hector Bellerin and Kieron Tierney ahead of him in the full back pecking order. James Ward Prowse deserves to keep his place after recently impressing for Southampton as does Jack Grealish who will be hoping to earn more caps during this International break after a strong start to the season with Aston Villa and a Man of the Match performance against Wales last month. I can see why Bukayo Saka is still in because there are not many in form left full/wing backs to cover Ben Chilwell and also he's played enough games for Arsenal to keep his place.
