Champions League Group Stage Draw: The Verdict

The draw for the Champions League Group Stage was made a couple of days ago with some very interesting and exciting ties to look forward to. This is what I think of the draw.

Liverpool have the toughest draw out of the English sides as they have Atletico Madrid and AC Milan along with Porto. Atletico Madrid won La Liga last season and knocked out the reds a couple of seasons ago in the last 16 whilst AC Milan who are back in this competition for the first time since 2014 finished 2nd in Serie A last season and are looking strong going into this season. Porto will be a winnable tie for them but Atletico and Milan will be the tough ones for them. Man United have the easiest group out of the four as they Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys. Villarreal may have beaten them in the Europa League final last season, but United should still make it out of their group. Chelsea and Man City should have enough to get out of their groups as they have some winnable ties to look forward to. They both have have at least one tough team in their groups with Chelsea up against Juventus and City up against PSG, but they should both still go through.

Bayern Munich under new boss Julian Nagelsmann have a straight forward group which should finish top of without too many problems. They do have Barcelona in their group which will be a challenge but they should have more than enough to beat Benfica and Dynamo Kiev. Real Madrid are more or less the same as they have one tough tie in Serie A champions Inter Milan and two winnable ones against Sheriff Tiraspol and Shakhtar Donetsk. Borussia Dortmund should have no problems with their group as they have Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon and Ajax. Ajax will be their toughest tie without a doubt but they should still make it out the group whether they finish first or runners up. Group G on the other hand doesn't look the strongest as it includes Lille, Wolfsburg, Salzburg and Sevilla who won't be expecting to go far in the competition.

GROUP STAGE DRAW:

GROUP A: Man City, PSG, RB Leipzig, Club Bruges

GROUP B: Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Porto, AC Milan

GROUP C: Sporting Lisbon, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Besiktas

GROUP D: Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sheriff Tiraspol

GROUP E: Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Benfica, Dynamo Kiev

GROUP F: Villarreal, Man United, Atalanta, Young Boys
