GK: WOJCIECH SZCZESNY (POLAND) - Szczesny made a number of crucial saves during the group stages including two penalty saves. He kept two clean sheets from the three games and without him Poland might not have gone through.
RB: ACHRAF HAKIMI (MOROCCO) - Hakimi has shown why he's one of the world's best full backs at this World Cup by being excellent in both departments. Defensively he's been very solid in making many crucial interventions and going forward he's looked a threat. His performances at both ends were crucial to Morocco reaching the last 16 and topping their group.
CB: HARRY SOUTTAR (AUSTRALIA) - The big centre back has been an absolute rock for Australia at this World Cup by making many crucial interventions both aerially and on the ground. He was out with an ACL injury this time last year for him to play like he has done at a World Cup deserves a huge amount of credit.
CB: HARRY MAGUIRE (ENGLAND) - Maguire has really put his poor form behind him at this World Cup by again stepping up for his country when his team needed him to. He was solid in all of England's group games by making lots of vital interventions and is looking more like the player we saw at the Euro's.
LB: THEO HERNANDEZ (FRANCE) - Hernandez registered assists in both of the games in he played during the group stages where he also did a solid job defensively. He contributions at both ends helped France top the group and qualify for the last 16 after replacing his brother Lucas.
CDM: CASEMIRO (BRAZIL) - Alongside scoring that perfect volley against Switzerland, Casemiro has been the wall in front of Brazil's backline. The defenders don't have a lot to do when he's there in front of them as he clears up everything in front of him which is what makes him one of the best in his position.
CM: BRUNO FERNANDES (PORTUGAL) - Fernandes has probably been Portugal's best player at this World Cup as he registered 2 goals and assists each to help his side finish top of their group. He's brought creativity to the midfield with the chances he created and he's also stepped up as a key player for his team.
CM: JUDE BELLINGHAM (ENGLAND) - Bellingham has carried his club form onto the international stage at this World Cup by being one of the first names on the England team sheet. He netted his first international goal against Iran and has brought energy and a goal threat to the England midfield.
RW: CODY GAKPO (HOLLAND) - Gakpo has been an emerging start at this World Cup by scoring in each of Holland's three group games. He's been the Dutch's main goal threat with the goals he's scored and it'sd no surprise to see some of Europe's top clubs chasing him.
LW: KYLIAN MBAPPE (FRANCE) - The PSG forward has probably been the player of the tournament so far given the performances he's put in for his team. He's the joint top goal scorer with 3 and has caused defenders all kinds of problems with his pace and skills. He's on course to win player of the tournament and the golden boot if he keeps up the form he's in.
ST: ALVARO MORATA (SPAIN) - Morata has proven many people wrong at this World Cup by scoring 3 goals as Spain qualified from their group. He might have started the first two games on the bench but when's played, he's given Spain that goal threat and focal point up top.
