Talking Points of the Weekend

How long does Graham Potter have at Chelsea?

1 win in 8 Premier League games and 11 points outside the top four with just 23 goals scored all season. The pressure is still very much on for Graham Potter at Chelsea with his side currently 10th in the league and unlikely to qualify for Europe next season. Because of this how long does he have at Chelsea?

He may have been brought in as a long term appointment when he arrived back in September because of the long term project owner Todd Boehly has planned. But you still need to deliver in the short term and at the moment Chelsea aren't doing that. There has been no progress under the former Brighton boss and things are unlikely to get better any time soon.

They did bring in a whole load of players during the January transfer window but none of them have really improved the team. They needed to sign a central striker who can consistently score goals as that has been their main problem for much of the season. That problem is very much still there because they didn't sign that kind of player during the transfer window. Their failure to do that has cost them many times this season and especially recently.

Chelsea are a club with very high standards and Potter has failed to live up to them since he's been in charge considering where the blues are in the table. Chelsea should be in the top four and challenging for titles instead of languishing in mid-table. There may be a case to give Potter time to build his own team but with the form his side are in and results unlikely to improve any time soon, he may not get that time because of Chelsea's history with managers and the standards set at the club.

Their results over the next month or so could determine how long he has left at the club.

Have Liverpool got their top four hopes back on track?

Liverpool are now level on points with the European places after back to back wins over Everton and Newcastle where the performances from both games were much improved. With the reds having a couple of games in hand along with some restored confidence to take into their coming games; Have they got their top four hopes back on track?

The games in hand will be crucial as they'll give them the chances to close the gap and put pressure on the teams above them. They're only 7 points off the Champions League spots and can reduce that gap to a point if they win both games in hands and keep up the momentum gained from their recent victories. That alongside other results going in their favour.

Another things that will boost their chances will be key players coming back from injury and at a good time. Diogo Jota came off the bench in both games against Everton and Newcastle whilst Virgil Van Dijk returned and played the full 90 minutes in the latter. They'll also have Luis Diaz back next month after four months out which will be another massive boost for them moving forward.

Some might say that top four is out of the question due to how inconsistent Liverpool have been this season. But if they can keep up the momentum they've gained and get their key players back in form, their chances of reaching the top four could well be back on.

Marcus Rashford is the best Premier League player right now

Marcus Rashford has scored in each of his last 6 Premier League games and is one of the in-form players in Europe right now. Based on the form he's been in domestically since the World Cup I would say that he's the best player in the Premier League right now.

Some might say he's up there with the best players in the world given the season he is having and the form he's currently in. But there are players in other leagues who are probably in as good or better form than Rashford which is my argument for the case in question.

But in terms of the Premier League he has to be the best player at this moment in time. He's a player full of confidence and whenever he approaches the six yard box it looks like he's always going to score. He's having the best season of his career this season with 24 goals scored in all competitions and is more than likely to bag even more due to the form he's in.
