Nunez has found his feet at Liverpool
It's taken time for Darwin Nunez to settle in at Liverpool since his big money move from Benfica in summer and he's now showing why the reds paid that money for him. He has 7 goals in his last 11 games in all competitions and because of this we can officially say that he has finally found his feet at Liverpool.
He made a bright start when he first arrived with goals off the bench in the Community Shield against Man City and on the opening day of the season against Fulham. But was later set back with his sending off against Crystal Palace. It took him time to gain some form when he returned from suspension and during that time he received some unfair criticism. Some were calling him a flop signing whilst former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor called him the 'worst signing of the transfer window'. Those comments were very harsh given that he's only just arrived and is playing in a different league.
The Uruguayan in recent weeks has no doubt silenced those critics with the form he's been in as he's been scoring goals and linking up with his teammates. One of the teammates he's been linking up play with has been Mo Salah who has also hit form in recent weeks after a rocky start to the season. The pair of them are beginning to form a good partnership on the pitch and with Luis Diaz back after the World Cup, the reds could finally find some much needed consistency after the break. Especially if Nunez can keep up the form he's been in.
Leeds back to being the most entertaining team to watch
A 4-3 win over Bournemouth last week followed by a 4-3 defeat to Spurs the weekend just gone. Both games had drama, were both end to end and brilliant to watch from a neutral point of view. Leeds had many games like this under Marcelo Bielsa and after having couple like that under Jesse Marsch, they are officially back to being the most entertaining team to watch in the Premier League.
They're starting games on the front foot like they were under Bielsa and are good to watch going forward. But are often left exposed at the back. They had all these characteristics when Bielsa was in charge with many people having them down as their second favourite team. They appear to still be playing that way under Jesse Marsch as they're starting games the same way and playing at a similar intensity. But their defensive flaws are still there for everyone to witness. This is why they're the most entertaining team to watch in the Premier League like they were when they first came up under Marcelo Bielsa.
Do Arsenal have the advantage in the title race?
Five points clear at the top of the Premier League at Christmas and going into the World Cup break. Does this give Arsenal the advantage in the title race?
The majority of teams who are top of the league at Christmas usually go on to win the title and as Arsenal are 5 points clear and above Man City, they'll be feeling confident that they can win the title. They have a much stronger mentality than they have done for many years and their lead at the top will give them something to build on after the World Cup break.
Their squad depth however will be tested later in the season as it's not as strong as Man City's. They've also been known for blowing it when the pressure is on them. Man City will make the most it if that is to be the case again this season give the experience they have of winning titles and the quality of their squad.
But if keep up the form they're in after the World Cup break and carry it into the closing stages of the season, they'll have a great chance of winning the title.
Man United must sell Ronaldo
Another chapter in the Cristiano Ronaldo Man United saga has just been written after the player revealed in an interview with Piers Morgan that he feels 'betrayed by the club' and that the people were 'trying to force him out'. These are not the sort of things you should say in a public interview and with that alongside his behaviour for most of the season, I think United must move Ronaldo on.
He's clearly unhappy at Man United and has been since the summer where he wanted to leave and join a club playing in the Champions League. He's also not playing as much as he would like which has made him even more unhappy. He walked down the tunnel before full time during Man United's win over Spurs last month which lead him to being dropped for their following game against Chelsea.
He clearly think he's bigger than the club due to his stature and what he's achieved in the game. But no player is ever bigger than one club no matter how successful you've been. He's crossed the line with the comments he made in that interview and I really can't see anywhere back for him at Old Trafford now.
