Fulham and Marco Silva learning lessons from previous Premier League seasons
Fulham have made a promising start to life back in the Premier League where they are also learning from the mistakes they've made in the past. Their manager Marco Silva is also learning from the mistakes he made in past seasons which is another promising sign for them.
They're having less possession of the ball than they did in the Championship last season, they're not trying anything fancy when playing out from the back and they're playing more direct. To stay in the Premier League you need to do all these things depending on the opposition you're up against because if you don't you'll get punished. Fulham did all three in their win over Brentford on Saturday and got a result.
In the past they've been criticized for being too open and making silly mistakes defensively which is certainly looking not to be the case this time round as they're looking more organised. Marco Silva has also been criticized for that during his previous spells in the Premier League and he deserves credit for putting them right this season along with his team. The Cottagers stand a better chance this time round because they've learnt from the mistakes they made in the past.
Worrying times for Leicester
19th in the league, no major signings in the transfer window and one or two players potentially on their way out. These are worrying times for Leicester indeed. I thought they would do well this season as they have no European football to distract them but after their poor start to the season I'm beginning to change my mind.
In their defeat to Southampton on Saturday, Youri Tielemans who is wanted by Arsenal started the game on the bench whilst Wesley Fofana who is wanted by Chelsea wasn't involved at all. The Foxes will try and keep hold of them both but after both were left out on Saturday, it looks like both could well be on their way out which would be a massive blow for the Foxes this season.
The lack of major signings is also a worry as many thought that they would refresh their squad after a tough campaign last season. With over a week left until the transfer window closes, the Foxes could be in for a very tough season. Especially if they don't get any deals through the door.
Will Newcastle go for it against the other big teams?
Newcastle's draw with Man City on Sunday was without a doubt one of the games of the season so far and the way that Newcastle approached it definitely made it enjoyable. They cause City many problems on the day as they got in behind their defence many times when City's full backs were high up the pitch which not many teams do. This got me asking whether they can approach their games against the other big teams in the same way.
Their performance will definitely give them confidence going into those kind of games as they'll believe that they can get something after their positive performance against Man City. Every season there has been that team who likes to give the big teams a good game and Newcastle will be feeling confident that they will be that team this season.
Have Man United turned a corner?
There was a lot of pressure on Man United going into their Monday night clash with Liverpool because of how poorly they've started the season. Many thought they would get hammered after their poor showing at Brentford but they went on and put in an all round good performance to win the game 2-1. So have they turned a corner?
United were better than Liverpool in every single department last night as their work rate was much better and they looked more organised defensively. They made Liverpool look very average by pressing them high up the pitch and causing them problems with the pace they had in wide areas which enabled them to run in behind their defence on many occasions. The result and performance will give them confidence going into their next game and we'll have to wait and see whether they have turned a corner in their season.
