Talking Points of the Weekend

Is Kai Havertz Chelsea's first choice striker?

Kai Havertz put in another good performance at the weekend in the no.9 position as he netted twice in Chelsea's 4-0 win at Burnley. As he's been preferred to Romelu Lukaku in recent weeks; Is the German now Chelsea's first choice striker?

He's certainly making a case for himself as his movement and link up play has been much better than Lukaku's. He also rarely disappoints when playing in that position as he leads the line well and pops up with some important goals including the ones he scored in both the Champions League and Club World Cup finals. With the recent form he's been in compared to the form Lukaku has been in, he could well be the blues' main man in that position. Especially if he keeps playing the way he has done.

Are Arsenal in pole position in the race for 4th?

Arsenal's win at Watford on Sunday moved them into the top four ahead of Man United who were later beaten by rivals Man City. With West Ham also dropping points along and the Gunners currently occupying the all important 4th spot: Are they in pole position in the race for 4th?

The Gunners have three games in hand which is more than the other teams fighting for top four and they'll see that as an advantage for them. This is because they could cement their place in that top four if they were to win those games in hand. Some of games they have between now and the end of the season are tough fixtures but if they can win some of those tough games, they'll be in a great position to finish in that top four.

They also have a good team spirit compared to one or two of the other teams fighting for top four which will be another bonus for them going into the rest of the season. Their team spirit has been questioned in the past but with some good young players in their squad who are committed and a strong backbone to the team itself, the Gunners are in a good place to finish in that top four.

New Man United boss has a big job on his hands

Man United's performance against Man City in the Manchester Derby on Sunday was absolutely dreadful as there was no effort or work rate from the players on the day. Particularly in the second half. City were miles away the better team and United's overall performance showed how far away they are from competing with City for the league. It also shows how tough a job the new manager has on his hands next season.

One reason why the likes of Liverpool and City are on another level to United is because they work hard out of possession. United were the complete opposite of that on Sunday and the main reason for it could be because they haven't got the players who will work their socks off for the team. Their current squad is made up of players who played under four different managers in David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who all had a different style of play. The players they have at the moment are arguably more suited to the styles those managers played and it could take a miracle for the new manager to get them playing a high pressing game.

The new manager may also need to move some players on if he's to get United playing a high pressing game because of some of the players not suiting the style and not being good enough for a club the size of Man United. A rebuild is still needed if United are to return to the glory days and moving some players on could help them move forward in the right direction.
