Talking Points of the Weekend

Top four race looking wide open

Both Man United and West Ham dropped points whilst Spurs were beaten by Wolves who are now looking well in the mix as their win moved them above Spurs into 7th. With five teams in the hunt and five points separating them all, the race four Champions League football is definitely looking wide open.

West Ham currently occupy the all important 4th spot with Man United just a point behind them in 5th. Both of them are followed by Arsenal in 6th who are two points off whilst Wolves are four off in 7th with Spurs 5 points off in 8th. Spurs may be slipping away but with 2 or 3 games in hand they shouldn't be written off just yet. In fact most of the teams in contention have games in hand which could make it interesting once they're all completed. With gaps between teams likely to get smaller and teams likely to move above one another, we could be in for the most open top four race in Premier League history.

Newcastle in pole position to stay up

Newcastle's recent form has put them in driving seat in the battle to avoid relegation as it's seen them move out of the bottom three and pull four points clear of the drop. With 3 wins from their last 3 and in better form than the teams below them, the Magpies are definitely in pole position to stay up.

I had them down as relegation certainties a couple of months ago but their recent form and new signings have given them a boost and some confidence that they can stay up. They arguably have the best team out of the sides battling it out down as a result of the players they brought in during January and that along with their recent form has put them in pole position to beat the drop.
