Roy Hodgson was appointed as Watford's new manager yesterday one day after the sacking of Claudio Ranieri becoming the 16th boss under the Pozzo's ownership.
The Hornets are 19th in the Premier League and on a poor run of form with 7 defeats in their last 8 league games. So can Roy keep them up?
I can see why Watford have chosen him because he's never been relegated and has a good track record of keeping teams up. He kept Fulham, West Brom and Crystal Palace in the Premier League when they were all in a similar position to the one Watford are in now which shows the experience he has when it comes to keeping teams in the league.
Another reason why they appointed him could be down to their poor defensive record this season because Hodgson is a manager who sets his teams up to be hard to beat and defensively well organised. The Hornets are still without a clean sheet this season and have conceded 40 goals with only Norwich and Newcastle conceding more than them. That shows where their problems lie.
They should have enough going forward with the likes of Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr in their attack and if Hodgson can fix the leaky defence like he has done when walking into previous clubs, the Hornets could stay up. Especially if they can bring in one or two new faces before the transfer window closes.
The Watford team he's taking charge of is arguably better than his Crystal Palace side because of how much they relied on Wilfried Zaha season after season.
