January Team of the Month

GK: NICK POPE (NEWCASTLE) - Pope went the whole of January without conceding a goal as Newcastle kept up their push for European football next season. He made some crucial and quality saves along the way and is arguably the best keeper in the league based on current form.

RB: KIERON TRIPPIER (NEWCASTLE) - Trippier was rock solid right throughout January as Newcastle went the entire month without conceding a single goal. It's been over a year since he arrived at St James' Park and the impact he's made since has been incredible.

CB: FABIAN SCHAR (NEWCASTLE) - Schar has been ever present in the Newcastle backline this season and has impressed on every opportunity. He didn't put a foot wrong during January as Newcastle kept a clean sheet in every game to keep up their strong season.

CB: SVEN BOTMAN (NEWCASTLE) - Botman has had another solid month for the Magpies as they went the whole of January without conceding a goal. He put in solid performances week in week out and has been one of the reasons why Newcastle have the best defence in the league.

LB: DAN BURN (NEWCASTLE) - It might seem a bit unfair that I've gone with an entire defence of Newcastle players and the reason for that is because I think they were the best performing defenders during January. Burn was solid in every game during January and has made that left back spot his own since the World Cup. He's been key to Newcastle's resurgence under Eddie Howe.

RW: RIYAD MAHREZ (MAN CITY) - Mahrez was back to his best during January after a slow start to the season. He registered 3 goals and 2 assists during January as City stayed in touch with Arsenal at the top of the league and without him they might have been further behind.

CM: THOMAS PARTEY (ARSENAL) - It was a close call between Partey and Casemiro and in the end I went with Partey as he played every game. The Ghanaian was solid throughout January by protecting the Arsenal defence well and controlling the flow of the game in midfield. HIs presence in the team was crucial to the Gunners staying top of the league like it has been all season.

CM: BRUNO FERNANDES (MAN UNITED) - The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has had a positive impact on Man United as a club and Fernandes is one player who has benefitted from it. He registered 2 goals and 2 assists during January as United climbed into the top four and is back to being the player he was when he first arrived at the club.

LB: SOLLY MARCH (BRIGHTON) - Marsh scored 3 times during January as Brighton put themselves in contention for a European spot. He's been played higher up the pitch since Roberto De Zerbi has been in charge of the Seagulls and has enjoyed being back in his more suited position after three seasons of playing at wing back.

ST: ERLING HAALAND (MAN CITY) - Some people have been saying that Haaland has been the problem for City this season. But I find that absolute nonsense because of the amount of goals he's scored already. He netted 4 times during January including a hat trick against Wolves and if it wasn't for those goals, City might not have had as many points as they do.

ST: MARCUS RASHFORD (MAN UNITED) - Rashford kept up his fine post World Cup form in January as he scored in almost every game. His goals were crucial to United moving into the top four and if he keeps up the form he's in, he surely has to be a guaranteed starter for England.
