England's World Cup journey came to an end last night as they were beaten by defending champions France in the Quarter Finals. Now that they're out, I've decided to rate each player on how they performed at the tournament itself.
JORDAN PICKFORD - 7
Made some crucial saves when his team needed him to and had a solid tournament overall. He again showed why he's England no.1 and why Gareth Southgate trusts him.
KYLE WALKER - 6
He might've missed the first couple of games through injury but once he returned to the team Walker looked solid. Put in a good shift defensively whenever he was asked to play and once again used his pace to good effect.
KIERON TRIPPIER - 6
Looked reasonably solid in the games he played during the group stages but didn't quite offer as much going forward as we might've hoped. Defensively though he did not put a foot wrong in the games he played during the group stages.
TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD - 5
He didn't get enough game time at this tournament with his only appearance being off the bench against Wales where he wasn't really tested. Hopefully he'll get more opportunities in the future because of how talented he is.
JOHN STONES - 7
Looked solid in pretty much every game by making many crucial interventions when his team needed to. He looked comfortable with the ball at his feet which is crucial to how England play and why he's an important part of this team under Gareth Southgate.
HARRY MAGUIRE - 7
Maguire has really silenced his critics at this tournament by putting in some solid performances at the heart of the defence. He may have been at fault for France's winning goal in the Quarter Finals but in the group stage he was arguably England's best player with the performances he put in.
ERIC DIER - 5
Didn't make much of an impact with his only appearances being off the bench against Iran and Senegal. He didn't have a lot to do in those games with both of them already won by the time he came on.
LUKE SHAW - 7
Decent tournament both offensively and defensively. He offered a threat going forward with his deliveries into the box and runs down the flank whilst defensively he was reasonably sound. He's basically got that left back spot nailed on after another solid tournament.
DECLAN RICE - 7
Did a decent job in front of England's back four in making many crucial interventions and giving the other midfield players the freedom to express themselves. He also used his energy to get forward to help out his team going forward.
JUDE BELLINGHAM - 9
Arguably England's player of the tournament. Scored in the first game against Iran and excellent in pretty much every game with his energy and tenacity in midfield. He's already looking like a top player at the age of 19.
JORDAN HENDERSON - 7
Henderson wasn't expected to play a major role at this tournament but he only went on and did so. His experience and leadership were crucial for England at big moments during games and he also brought some extra energy and solidity to the midfield.
KALVIN PHILLIPS - 6
He may have played one game but in that game he put in a decent shift against Wales. He wasn't expected to play much as he returned from a long lay off just before the tournament started but in that game he set up the winning goal for Rashford and looked solid in front of the England defence.
MASON MOUNT - 6
He had his moments where he impressed but overall he didn't make the impact he would've hoped for. He did make an impact off the bench against France but in the other games he struggled to make any meaningful contribution.
PHIL FODEN - 7
Foden gave England the spark they needed when he came into the team and showed why he should've played in the game he was dropped against the USA. He registered 2 assists and a goal from the four games he played and was always looking to do something whenever he had the ball.
JACK GREALISH - 6
Made an impact off the bench against Iran where he netted their final goal and looked bright against off the bench against the USA. He didn't quite make the same impact in the other games as he wasn't on the pitch long enough. But his solitary goal will give him confidence going back to his club.
BUKAYO SAKA - 9
Saka is surely one of the first names on the team sheet now after the tournament he's just had. He was England's joint top scorer with 3 and looked dangerous whenever he went forward with his pace. That penalty miss at the Euro's is surely dead and buried now.
RAHEEM STERLING - 6
Sterling was set to play another major role for England after scoring in the opening game against Iran. But in the other games he wasn't quite able to make the same kind of impact. He did have to briefly leave the camp due to a family issue but wasn't able to be as influential in the other games.
MARCUS RASHFORD - 8
Made an impact in almost every game he played in and should've started more games because of it. Was electric against Wales in the final group game and is looking like a player who is back to his best after a tough year and a half.
HARRY KANE - 7
He might not have scored as many goals as he would've wanted to but he still made a massive difference in attack. His penalty miss against France was disappointing but he still played a crucial role for his team with 2 goals and 3 assists.
CALLUM WILSON - 5
He didn't play much at this tournament as he was playing second fiddle for Harry Kane. But he did impress off the bench in the opening game against Iran by assisting Jack Grealish's goal. But didn't do a lot in the other game he played against Wales.
