Gareth Southgate announced his England squad on Thursday ahead of their friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast next week. Marc Guehi is the only new face to the squad whilst there are recalls for Nick Pope and Ben White.
I'm very surprised that Guehi was called up because I wasn't expecting him to as England already had enough options in the centre back area. He has been decent for Crystal Palace this season but I still wasn't expecting him to be called up.
I can see why Nick Pope was recalled because he's been decent for Burnley in recent games and deserves to be in ahead of Sam Johnstone who is playing in the Championship with West Brom. Ben White definitely deserves a recall because he's been in good form for Arsenal and deserves to be in the squad for that very reason.
In terms of the rest of the squad, I'm very surprised to see that Kyle Walker has been dropped because I wasn't expecting Reece James to be in involved as he's just returned from an injury. I'm also surprised to see that Jadon Sancho hasn't been recalled as he's been in decent for for Man United recently. I wasn't sure whether James Ward Prowse would get called because the options England have in that position but I was expecting Conor Gallagher to be included.
