Champions League Semi Final Predictions: 1st Leg

TUESDAY:

MAN CITY V REAL MADRID

Man City will just about be favourites for this tie as they've been favourites for the competition all season plus they arguably have a stronger squad than Real do. Real do have players who can hurt City but City will still be favourites as they have an overall stronger team.

Gabriel Jesus will be hoping for another start in this one after scoring four against Watford on Saturday which will do his confidence the world of good. His performance will have sent a message to his manager and he'll be hoping that Pep will listen to him.

Real Madrid will definitely fancy themselves in this competition because of the history they have in it plus they've proven that they can beat anyone on their day. They showed that against PSG in the last 16 and Chelsea in the Quarter Finals and they'll be looking to do the same in this one.

Carlo Ancelotti also has a good record in this competition having won it three times including his triumph with Real in 2014. Having a manager like that in charge will give Real more belief that they can go all the way.

PREDICTION: 2-1

It'll definitely be a close game because of the quality that both sides have. I'm backing City to go ahead in this tie because I think they'll have enough to win this first leg as they have a stronger team on paper.

WEDNESDAY:

LIVERPOOL V VILLARREAL

Liverpool had to be patient against Everton on Sunday as their rivals frustrated them for pretty much the entire first half. The game soon opened up when the subs came on with all three of them making an impact the moment they were brought on. They may need to rely on their bench again in this tie.

With the first leg being at Anfield the reds will feel that they have the advantage because they'll have the home crowd behind them and they'll be looking to use that to spur them on in this game. The crowd have been key to their success in Europe in the past and they could be again in this game.

Villarreal will definitely fancy themselves in this tie as they've already knocked out two European giants in Juventus and Bayern Munich. This one will be a tougher test but their victories in the previous two rounds will give them confidence going into this game.

PREDICTION: 2-0

I'm going for a Liverpool win here because they should have enough quality to win the game. Villarreal will make it difficult for them as they're very solid defensively but the reds should still have enough quality to go ahead in this tie.

THURSDAY:

PREMIER LEAGUE FIXTURE

MAN UNITED V CHELSEA

This is a game that Man United need to win so they can keep their faint top four hopes alive. Their defeat to Arsenal at the weekend pretty much ended their chances and if they're to finish there at the end of the season, they need to win this game with it being a game in hand for them.

They didn't play as badly against Arsenal as they did against Liverpool but their first half performance was non existent. Their pressing was poor and they looked all over the place defensively like they have done for the majority of the season. Erik Ten Hag has a lot to do when he take over in the summer.

Chelsea don't have a brilliant record at Old Trafford but Thomas Tuchel does having won both visits there from his time at PSG in the Champions League. He may be up against a different manager this time round in Ralf Rangnick but Tuchel's record at Old Trafford will still give his side confidence going into this game.

The blues weren't at their best against West Ham on Sunday but they still managed to come away with the win which was the most important thing. They struggled to break the Hammers down at times during the game and it wasn't until later on where they started to breach their defence.

PREDICTION: 1-1

I can't see much between these two sides because of the patchy form they're both in. I think United will get something here only because Chelsea don't press as high as Liverpool do. United will concede but I don't think Chelsea will take their chances in front of goal.
