Champions League Quarter Final Predictions: 2nd Leg

TUESDAY:

BAYERN MUNICH V VILLARREAL

Bayern Munich were flat in the first leg and Julian Nagelsmann will without a doubt expect his side to put in a better showing in this game. They weren't at their best in the first leg against Salzburg in the last 16 which will give them some belief that they can put in a better performance in the second leg of this tie.

Having home advantage will help because they'll have the fans behind them urging them on and that will help them massively in this second leg. If they can play at their best alongside that, they'll have a great chance of turning this tie around.

Villarreal will feel that they could've scored more in the first leg because of the amount of chances they had on the day. They were better side right throughout the first leg and they should've had the game out of sight with the chances they had.

I'm very surprised to see them not in the top six in La Liga because of how well they've done in Europe. They may be struggling to compete on both fronts but given how well they've performed in Europe this season, I'd expect them to be higher than 7th.

PREDICTION: 3-0

I think Bayern will definitely respond in this one because they'll have home advantage and they also have the players to help them turn this tie around. With some top attacking players in their side, I can see them turn this tie around.

REAL MADRID V CHELSEA

Real Madrid look good as through given the advantage they already have in this tie and the return leg being a home game for them. They'll still field a strong team in this game as they'll want to add to the lead they already have and Chelsea also have the players to help them turn a tie on its head.

They proved again in the first leg that they're a team to be taken seriously because of the classy performance they put in. They controlled the game in midfield with 36 year old Luka Modric being the main standout and were dangerous in attack through hat trick hero Karim Benzema and the exciting talent that is Vinicius Junior.

Chelsea put in a very good response to their first leg defeat by thrashing Southampton on Saturday which will give them a lot of confidence and belief going into this game. They started the game sharply and they were a ruthless machine right throughout the game.

They'll need to play like they did against Southampton in this one because they're 3-1 down in the tie and will need to get themselves back in it if they're to stand a chance of reaching the next round. This will be a tougher game than the one at the weekend but they'll need to start with the same intent.

PREDICTION: 2-0

I'm backing Real to see themselves through to the next round because they'll have the quality to do so. With this being a home tie for them and the quality they have all over the pitch, they should have enough to see this game through.

WEDNESDAY:

ATLETICO MADRID V MAN CITY

Atletico Madrid were very negative in the first leg as they went the entire game without a single shot on goal. They did frustrate City defensively by being their usual resolute and hard to beat selves but going forward they offered nothing.

They'll need to have more of a go in the return leg because they're 1-0 behind and City will punish them if they don't. I can still see them be their usual selves in being hard to beat but they should still give it more of a go as they're behind in the tie and will want to give themselves a chance of reaching the next round.

Man City will feel that they should've beaten Liverpool on Sunday as they had chances to wards the end of the game to win the contest. They'll take the draw as it kept them at top of the league but they'll still feel disappointed that they didn't win it because of the chances they had towards the end.

They had to bring Phil Foden off the bench in the first leg to try and break up the Atletico defence and he certainly did that by going at the defenders and setting up Kevin De Bruyne for the only goal of the game. Knowing how tough Atletico Madrid are to play against under Diego Simeone, Pep has to start Phil Foden for this game because of the impact he had in the first leg.

PREDICTION: 0-2

I think Atletico will give it more of a go here as they're behind in the tie. But I still think City will have enough to see themselves through to the next round. Atletico will make it difficult for them like they did in the first leg but City should still win it because of the quality they possess.

LIVERPOOL V BENFICA

Liverpool might make one or two changes for this game with their FA Cup semi final against Man City in mind. But I still expect them to field a reasonably strong team in this one because of how strong their squad is and the fact that they'll want to add to the lead they already have in this tie.

They have a fairly comfortable lead going into this second leg and they'll be feeling confident that they can keep it that way. The victory was never really in doubt in the first leg as they were always going to have enough quality to win the game. Benfica did threaten in the second half but the result was still never in doubt.

Benfica will be looking to just play for pride with their chances of progressing to the semi finals looking very slim given that they're 3-1 down in this tie. They do have a crucial goal to build on but given the quality of opposition they're up against I can't see them overcoming the 3-1 deficit.

They've had a good journey in this competition this season in getting out of a group containing Barcelona and Bayern Munich before beating Ajax in the last 16. They'll feel proud with how well they've done in the Champions League this season.

PREDICTION: 2-0

I think Liverpool will see them through here because they'll have enough quality to do so. They might make a few changes with their FA Cup clash with City in mind but I still think they'll have more than enough to see themselves through to the next round.
