Carabao Cup Final 2022 Preview

PROBABLE LINE UPS FOR BOTH TEAMS

Chelsea beat Liverpool the last time they met in a League Cup final back in 2005 when they won 3-2 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. That was during Jose Mourinho's first season in charge and his first trophy as Chelsea boss before going on to win the league later in the season.

Thomas Tuchel has made the final of every competition in English football since becoming Chelsea boss which deserves a some credit for the job he has done. He didn't win all of them of course having lost the FA Cup final to Leicester last season but for him to reach every possible cup final deserves credit. His success in the other finals will give his side belief and confidence going into this final.

Liverpool are the joint record winners of this competition alongside Man City with 8 and have an opportunity here to get their title back as the stand alone record winners of the League Cup by winning their 9th. They last won this cup 10 seasons ago when they beat Cardiff on penalties and will probably be favourites for this one as they go into the game in the better form.

Jurgen Klopp has a poor record at Wembley having lost all of his four visits there as a manager. He lost the 2013 Champions League final there when he was at Borussia Dortmund and lost three more times there as Liverpool boss in the 2016 League Cup final and the 2019 and 2020 Community Shields. He'll want to break that hoodoo with a win in this cup final which will be his first domestic cup as Liverpool manager if his side were to win here.

PREDICTION: 1-2

This one will definitely be a close game as the sides involved are very good teams. I'm going to go for a Liverpool win here because they arguably have a stronger squad and look strong in all areas. With the recent form they're in, I can see them edge this cup final.
